A Poem Toward the End

My heart is so great with love

For today’s National Poetry Month post, I would just refer you to a poem published today at Free State Review, a reliable literary journal helmed by Barrett Warner.

Today’s post is “Dawn,” a poem by Chris Bullard, a former judge who lives in Philadelphia. His bio says that he is currently in hospice care, which certainly influences the way one might read his poem. It begins:

Dawn

I have put out things of the best quality:
breakfast linens as comfortable
as grassy hillsides,
snug silver teaspoons beside roan-colored tea.

Read the whole poem, which includes the line “My heart is so great with love,” here at Free State Review.
