Here’s an opportunity for poets looking for a writing getaway: ACW—the Adirondack Center for Writing in Saranac Lake—has opened applications for their Anne LaBastille Memorial Writers Residency, a two-week, fully funded opportunity for writers this September, into early October. That’s a great time to be in the Adirondacks.
Set on Twitchell Lake, the residency offers six writers—across poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction—time and space to work in a quiet, communal setting. Residents stay in a lakeside lodge with private rooms, shared meals, and access to both indoor and outdoor writing spaces. There will be morning writing sessions, fireside conversations, and time on the water exploring the landscape that inspired Anne LaBastille’s work.
Applications are open now through May 18, with a modest fee to apply and no cost to attend if selected. Writers submit a short sample (up to 10 pages) and a brief project proposal—selection is based primarily on the strength of the writing. Half the spots are reserved for writers from the Adirondack region, and half are open to applicants from anywhere, making it both a local and international gathering of voices.
