We are thrilled and deeply grateful to Shaundra Bartlett Yaw for her wonderful article spotlighting Snowfort in The Sun Community News! Her words beautifully capture the heart and soul of our mission: to create a welcoming haven for book lovers and families alike in the Adirondacks.
As Shaundra wrote, bookstores today are much more than retail spaces—they’re places to connect, reflect, and belong. At Snowfort, we’re committed to fostering that sense of community. Whether through story hours and crafts on MLK Day, Lunar New Year celebrations, or simply providing a cozy nook to get lost in a book, we hope to be a vibrant hub for all ages.
Our family’s journey to Westport and the transformation of an old hardware store into Snowfort has been nothing short of magical. As the article noted, the shelves that once housed tools now hold stories, and our residency program for writers and their families embodies the same sense of adventure and creativity we felt when our 6-year-old daughter Grace named Snowfort.
And I want to highlight the way she included info about our residency program, which we’re hoping to kickoff soon. I’m quoted saying, “…the idea behind the residency is bring your whole family. The person doing the writing project will get a space to work and the family will have plenty of activities to enjoy.”
