This is the first meeting of our new book club, the Snowfort Fiction Book Club, where each month we will read and discuss a newish novel of import along with a short story. All are very welcome!
This month we will read Paul Beatty’s novel, The Sellout. The book won the Man Booker Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award in Fiction.
“The Sellout isn’t just one of the most hilarious American novels in years, it also might be the first truly great satirical novel of the century . . . [It] is a comic masterpiece, but it’s much more than just that-it’s one of the smartest and most honest reflections on race and identity in America in a very long time.” —Michael Schaub, NPR.org
We have a few copies available at the store, and we also suggest ordering from Bookshop.org (a great way to support us!).
We are also going to read and discuss a short story by Ernest Hemingway, “A Clean, Well-Lighted Place,” which you can download here.
You can expect the open discussion to last about an hour or so. We’ll choose our next book together—or a process for choosing the next book—at the end of this discussion.
If you have any questions, feel free to email Adam!
