Join us for a special evening with Snowfort co-owner Amy Robinson in conversation with Lu Chekowsky, author of Don’t Buy What I’m Selling: On Breaking Up With Advertising and Finally Learning to Love My Whole, Fat Self [Little, Brown 2026]
Lu will read from their “fascinating, smart, and hilarious” memoir, and Amy will read from her memoir-in-progress, and then the two will talk about leaving behind tired old narratives, grappling with all we inherit from our mothers, and learning to tell our own, truer stories.

Lu Chekowsky (she/they) is an Emmy Award–winning creative director, writer, and author of Don’t Buy What I’m Selling. She has led creative work for Facebook, Comedy Central, MTV, and Wieden+Kennedy, and is a 2023 New York State Council on the Arts/New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow in nonfiction. Her essays and poetry have appeared in The Rumpus, Pigeon Pages, and Autofocus, and her writing about advertising has appeared in Ad Age and Muse by Clios. She lives in the Hudson Valley.

Along with co-owning a bookstore with her husband Adam and raising two kids in Westport, Amy Robinson writes prose and poetry, and is learning to use the Vandercook letterpress in the Snowfort basement. She has taught poetry in Bangladesh, memoir writing to survivors of Katrina in New Orleans, and lots of other creative writing classes to people of all ages. Her poems, fiction, and essays have appeared in two chapbooks and in numerous publications, including Tin House, Saveur, Necessary Fiction, Fanzine, and Gay Magazine. Currently, she is at work on a memoir with the working title, “Mothers and Mothers and Mothers and Mothers.”
This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts.
