Publishing Genius Reading Room

A dedicated space for quiet reading, curiosity, and creative history, the Publishing Genius Reading Room at Snowfort offers a curated collection of titles from the Publishing Genius archive alongside rare chapbooks, rotating displays, and archival materials. Nestled within the shop, Publishing Genius—the resident press at Snowfort—maintains the Reading Room as a space to reflect on two decades of small-press publishing, chapbook culture, and literary ephemera.

Books, Archives, Visiting Collections

The room features the complete Publishing Genius catalog—past, present, and ongoing—alongside the personal chapbook collection of PG editor Adam Robinson. These books are non-circulating and meant to be read and enjoyed on-site.

Also on display: editorial ephemera from PG’s history, including marked-up manuscripts, early contracts, and reviews clipped from print magazines. The room occasionally hosts visiting collections, such as tributes to recently departed authors like Alice Notley, or themed micro-libraries from featured presses.

Reserve the Room

To encourage slow reading and deep engagement, the Reading Room is available to reserve in one-hour blocks during Snowfort’s open hours. Members of Snowfort enjoy unlimited access and can reserve longer sessions.

Guest Book

All visitors are invited to sign the Reading Room guest book. Jot down what you read, leave a note for the next guest, or share your own literary obsessions. Over time, the guest book becomes a document of its own—a collective portrait of this small but mighty space.

Room Guidelines

• There’s an internet-connected computer and printer in the room, if needed. Coffee and tea are free.
• Please enjoy the materials in the room but leave all other bookstore books in the main space.
• This is a quiet room for reading, writing, or reflection—no phone calls or meetings.
• All materials are non-circulating. Many PG titles are available for purchase in the bookstore.
• Please return books neatly and treat the space with care.
• Note that the Reading Room adjoins the PG office and the Snowfort bookstore, so visitors should expect small, occasional interruptions from time to time, similar to being in any public library.

The Publishing Genius Reading Room reflects two decades of small press publishing and literary experimentation. It’s a space for readers and writers to sit among the pages of work that may not make it to bestseller lists but has nonetheless changed lives and the cultural conversation.
